Day 1 of the 100 Day Project

Got started a bit late on the 100 Day Project, but at least I've made a start. Did a quick collage late last night using scraps in my paper stash. Posted it Instagram this morning.

The 100 Day Project

Last year I read the fabulous book "The Crossroads of Should and Must" by Elle Luna - a beautiful, inspiring book.

Last year, Elle ran a project on instagram called the 100 Day Project. Participants were to choose a project they would do and document on instagram for 100 days. I was too late to start last year but followed some of the participants' progress and it appeared that people found to a very valuable process. Some, kept going, some found it led them to something else that they hadn't thought about before and everyone appreciated the value of a body of work that existed after 100 days of showing up and applying themselves to the task at hand. The commitment to making something each day, just showing up and making an effort was in itself a reward.

So, I have been thinking that I will participate this year. But what will I do? Which thing will I choose? I need to have a cool thing - like 100 days of making abstract art out of recycled materials, or 100 days of drawing cars with coffee, or 100 days of origami giraffes out of book pages - or some other original idea that's better than these. Other participants seemed to have much more specific interesting ideas than I had.

I couldn't confine myself to one topic. And then I realised that was the problem. I couldn't choose a topic, I wouldn't choose a topic and then it would be too late to participate because I would be too far behind - a familiar theme in my life. Also, I was already mentally criticising anything I was going to make before it even existed - this is what I do :)

So, it's now 21 April here in Australia, and the 100 Day Project started on 19 April, so I'm really already up to day 3 and I haven't done anything. I am starting today. My unique(?) hashtag is #100daysofcreativeplay and I am not going to be too fussy about what I do and how it looks. I need to remember that the fabulous thing is going to be that I show up and do something/anything for 100 days - not that I do amazing, life changing work!

New blog - new start

Seeing as I have completely neglected my old blog, I have decided to start again.

A fresh start. A new beginning.

I haven't got around to personalising the blog page yet, but I will :)

I am truly the world's biggest procrastinator. But I need to commit to something - to myself; my creative process - the work that matters.
